
SCT at Concordia : Introduction

The above chart highlights the fact that there are many stakeholders who have a strong interest in the financial activities of a university. The chart also underlines the various modules (Budget, Purchasing, etc) that make up a university's Financial Infromation System.
The focus of Financial Services has changed to reflect this complex and evolving environment. Rather than simply being a processing area or a watchdog over financial transactions, Financial Services role is to serve its clients and stakeholders. A state of the art FIS is essential to fulfill this role.
"BUT WHY DO WE NEED A NEW FINANCIAL INFORMATION SYSTEM?"
There are several reasons why Concordia's current FIS must be replaced. While the year 2000 problem makes replacement urgent, there are other resons as well. Here is a complete list:
- System is not year 2000 compliant
- Data is not captured at source
- Purchasing, Budgeting, Grants Management is highly centralized
- Sub-systems flourish throughout the University
- Financial information is difficult to obtain
- System maintenance requires a high level of manual intervention

- Request for Proposals was sent out to vendors
- Original submissions were evaluated
- A short list of potential products was established
- Potetential Vendors came to Concordia for presenatation and demonstrations
- Wide consultation was undertaken at Concordia to discuss potential systems
- SCT Banner was chose

At the end of the evaluation process, SCT Banner emerged as the best choice for several reasons. Here is a list:
