Summer language immersion program bursaries
Bursaries will be granted to students across Canada to enable them to enroll in a five-week (5) immersion course in French or English at accredited institutions. The aim of this program is to provide post-secondary students with the opportunity to learn one of Canadas official languages as their second official language, and to improve their knowledge of the culture represented by that language. If you are a permanent resident whose first language is neither English nor French, the language in which you studied during the current year (English or French) is considered your language of adoption. You would be eligible for a bursary in the other language.
These bursaries will defray the cost of tuition, institutional materials and room and board, but will not cover transportation costs, pocket money or child-care service (if applicable). Inquiries regarding the awarding of bursaries, including eligibility, should be made to the students provincial or territorial coordinator (see addresses listed below).
Or visit the federal Official-Languages Programs web site.
Eligibility
A student is eligible if he/she meets the following conditions:
- Is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident at the time of application. Students studying in Canada on visas are not eligible;
- Has general post-secondary standing, or can prove that he/she will have obtained such a status by the time he/she becomes involved in the program;
- Was enrolled as a full-time student during the academic year.
